Lois Wilkes Artist Biography

I began working with 35mm photography about 20 years ago
and graduated to digital photography about 5 years ago. I love
the color and myriad form of flowers and nature and have
taken hundreds if not thousands of nature based pictures and
natural scenery.  I look for unique form and perspective in all
of the common everyday items we see.  I have also taken
pictures of many unique faces and have been captivated by
the individuality of each of characters that I see.  I attempt to
capture that essence in my pictures.

My work represents the type of work I enjoy doing.  In
addition to natural beauty I produced pictorial essays in Paris
and in Transylvania, where in 1993, I lectured about Aids
Testing in the United States.  I believe that a picture should
tell a story; indeed it should be worth 10,000 words.

As I have advanced my knowledge and experience in the digital darkroom, I have
advanced my work to move beyond just optimizing my pictures as a traditional
photographer does in the darkroom to create works of art from my pictures.  I have also
experimented with printing on a variety of papers such as watercolor and canvas
papers giving my photos entirely different looks.  I find it very satisfying to be able to
create both art and pictorial essays.

My educational background is scientific, business and computer oriented.  I have
worked over 30 years in technical positions.  Photography adds a much needed balance
to my creative side.  Working with digital photography I have the best of both worlds by
using my creative energies to create images and my technical ability to manipulate an
image into something more.

My work has been displayed at local libraries and art societies and I have won several
local art show awards.

Lois Wilkes - Photographic Art

Open for Breakfast- This breakfast picture was taken at Polly’s on the Pier in
Redondo Beach, CA.  The link will show you the menu, and  Lois comments that
their omelets are delicious. This photo will be on display from May 14 to June 14,
2004 at the Brookdale Community College 18th Annual Juried Art Show in Lincroft,
NJ.  The natural light on the objects was captured perfectly, and the breakfast
was a terrific start for a day of photography and sightseeing.

With relaxing art, sail to a bygone era and view flowers at the water's edge.
