Hong Kong Wedding

Photographers lunge and dance around to capture the images
of the bride and groom. The lovely view of Victoria Harbor in the
background serves as a gentle reminder that this is Hong Kong
-- a place that  requires an enormous effort to prepare for a
wedding as a duality of customs and traditions are observed
from both eastern and western cultures. The Hong Kong
wedding has three elements -- the church ceremony, the
Chinese tea ceremony and the Chinese banquet. From the start,
the date of the wedding is chosen carefully. The Hong Kong
wedding must take place on a favorable day and time affording
good and prosperity. The Chinese lunar calendar and
astrological charts are consulted to make sure the date is
suitable to bring the couple luck. The bride will have two wedding
gowns -- the western gown captured in this image along Victoria
Harbor and the eastern wedding gown which is a robe of red
brocade or satin richly emboidered in gold thread and sequins.
The eastern-style gown is worn at the wedding banquet which is
held at a large Chinese restaurant. Every dish that is served the
guests is given an appropriate luky name. Of great importance is
the tea ceremony. It takes place at the groom's parents' home.
The bride serves the grooms' parents tea, and the groom
presents the bride with a gift that is often jewelry in appreciation.
This photograph is one to cherish and appreciate as it was taken
on a luky date and time, and it represent the coming together of
two cultures with a happy result.
