Chris Yates -- Wood Sculptures Called Terraforms
Explore Cartography through Modern Wood Sculpture.
Chris Yates was born in 1979 in Summit, New Jersey. As a
child, Chris discovered his love for Legos(R), maps, and
travel; which informs his work to this day. He moved up and
down the realm of Interstate 95 doing various things, and
eventually received a BFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island
School of Design. In 2001, Chris moved to sunny Colorado
and has had a host of random creative jobs in the
Denver/Boulder area. Chris has been a portrait
photographer, a video editor, a bartender, a cabinetmaker, a
TV show director, a dog-kennel assembler, and a sign-maker.
These diverse jobs all severed as a creative influence on
Chris’ sculpture work. Chris started making Terraforms in
2002, and has made over 50 pieces to date in his scenic
Chataqua Park studio. He is hoping to soon go full-time with
his own sculpture. He also tries to keep the Chris Yates
Tracking System alive, and collaborates with a variety of
bands, publications, and other creative entities in Boulder.

The Chris Yates’ Tracking System
is comprised of 100 Sculptural Markers
(called Chris Yates’ Tracking Devices),
located in the USA, Canada, Australia and
New Zealand. Each device has a plaque
affixed with contact information. There
are 10 series of devices, made over the
span of two years, reflecting Chris’
development of various sculpture
technique. Persons who accompany Chris
on his deployment missions are referred to
as the Chris Yates’ Tracking Team, and
persons who have responded to devices are
referred to as Respondents. More

Beginning April 22, Chris Yates has an opening at
Sunflower Restaurant in Boulder, Colorado. Thirteen wood
sculpture Terraforms will be shown. Sunflower Restaurant
is a hot, local, hi-end organic restaurant & bar.
