This CD is an audio CD that will play in any audio CD player and on any PC or Mac that plays music CDs. When inserted into a PC, it will also enable the installation of a slide show screen saver comprised of more than two dozen beautiful Caribbean images and the sounds of frogs, insects and birds from the Virgin Islands National Park.
This screen saver contains a wallpaper feature, whereby any of the individual images may be selected to become the background for the PC desktop.
This will install the "Screen Saver Control" icon into the system tray, which is in the bottom right corner of your PC, near the time and date. This has a small crescent moon icon on a blue background. Double click this to start the screen saver at any time. RIGHT click this to select your screen saver and adjust screen saver properties. See below to remove this control or the screen saver, itself.
The Caribbean Dawn screen saver slide show has an audio track that is a shortened version of the 60+ minutes of normal audio on the CD. This slide show audio will loop and play continuously as long as the screen saver is active - even if you have set your Power Management options to shut off your monitor after the screen saver has started.

This CD contains two additional versions of the screen saver, specifically designed for PC displays that are wider than usual or more square than usual. The wider one may be installed by: click Start, Run and type D:WIDE\setup, then click OK. Note that "D" must be the letter of your CD drive. (It might, for example, need to be "E" or "F" on your PC.) To install the more square version, click Start, Run and type D:SXGA\Setup, and click OK. Details on display sizes are in the Problem Solving section, below.

PROBLEM: I insert the CD into the drive, but nothing appears on the screen. SOLUTION: 1. To install the screen saver, open My Computer and click on the icon, above your CD drive, that looks like a tiny image of the front of the CD case. If your music CD playing application has opened and is beginning to play the audio track of the CD, you may need to click Pause on the player, or even close the player before installing the screen saver. 2. If this does not start the installation, click on Start, then Run, then type "D:setup" and click OK. Note that "D" must be the letter of your CD drive. (It might, for example, need to be "E" or "F" on your PC.) 3. To just play the audio track on the CD, open My Computer and click on the icon, above your CD drive, that looks like a tiny image of the front of the CD case. Right click on the icon and choose Play. This should bring up your music CD playing application, such as Windows Media Player or Music Match Jukebox, and begin playing the audio track.
PROBLEM: I don't seem to have a music CD playing application. REPSONSE: 1. Click on Start, then Programs to locate and start an application that will play an audio CD, such as Windows Media Player or Music Match Jukebox. 2. If you do not have such an application, you may download one for free from a number of web sites, including www.microsoft.com (Windows Media Player), www.MusicMatch.com (Music Match Jukebox), www.RealAudio.com (Real Audio Player) and many others. 3. Right Click on "Track 1" in the play list and click the Play button. "Track 1" may be replaced by the title "Caribbean Dawn" if your PC has access to a web site that has the CD information in it.
PROBLEM: I move the mouse, but the screen saver takes FOREVER to stop. SOLUTION: The mouse sensitivity may be in need of adjustment. (You can press the ESCape key, in the upper left of your keyboard, to quickly stop the screen saver.) 1. RIGHT click on the Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray, which is in the bottom right corner of your screen, in the task bar, near the clock. A gray window will appear with choices regarding screen savers. 2. Without clicking, just move the mouse to Configure Screen Saver, which is the third line in the gray box. A second gray box will appear, which lists all of the screen savers available on your PC. 3. Move the mouse to Caribbean Dawn and click the mouse. The Caribbean Dawn Screen Saver control panel should appear. A window should appear with the title Caribbean Dawn with a tiny frog on the left and some palm trees at dawn on the right 4. Pull down the scroll bar, on the right, until you see the Mouse Sensitivity choice. Click on the value (to the right) and a small "pull down arrow" should appear. Change the sensitivity to High. 7. Click the OK box at the bottom of the window.
PROBLEM: There are black bands above and below the pictures. SOLUTION: You have an SXGA display (1280x1024), which is taller and less wide than other PC displays. There is a version of the screen saver on the disk made especially for this type of display. If you install it, the pictures will fill the entire screen. 1. Put the Caribbean Dawn CD into the PC's CD drive. 2. Click on START, in the lower left corner of your PC screen. 3. Move the mouse to Run (near the bottom) and click the mouse. A box, where you can type, will appear. 4. Type D:SXGA\setup, where "D" is the letter of your CD drive. (It might, for example, need to be "E" or "F" on your PC.) 5. Click on "OK". 6. This will install the taller, less wide version of the screen saver, which is called "Caribbean Dawn SXGA".
1. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED THIS VERSION, select this taller, less wide version by: 2. RIGHT click on the Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray, which is in the bottom right corner of your screen, in the task bar, near the clock. It looks like a PC screen with a crescent moon on it. A gray window will appear with choices regarding screen savers. 3. Without clicking, just move the mouse to Set Default Screen Saver, which is the fourth line in the gray box. A second gray box will appear, which lists all of the screen savers available on your PC. 4. Move the mouse to Caribbean Dawn SXGA and click the mouse. 5. To verify this, DOUBLE-click this same Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray, at the bottom right corner of your display.
A FEW WORDS ON DISPLAY SHAPES: The normal version of the Caribbean Dawn screen saver contains pictures that will render sharply and fill the entire screen on PCs with a display set to the following sizes:
1856 x 1392 1600 x 1200 UXGA 1400 x 1050 SXGA+ 1152 x 864 1024 x 768 XGA 800 x 640 SVGA 640 x 480 VGA
Users who have their PC display set to SXGA (1280 x 1024) may wish to load the "taller, less wide" version of the screen saver, as described above. These images are more "square" so as to accommodate the SXGA shape, for SXGA is disproportionately taller than other display sizes.
Users who have a "wide screen" display may wish to install the WIDE version of the screen saver, as described below. The WIDE version fits exactly on screens that are 1280 x 768, a size that is becoming popular on laptops and some LCD displays.
You may install all three versions and change between them at any time.
PROBLEM: There are black bands on each side of the images and the display is not particularly wide. SOLUTION: You may be running the SXGA version of the screen saver. You should run the normal, high-resolution version of the screen saver. 1. Install the screen saver, by clicking on the frog on the installation screen. 2. If you have already installed both versions, select the normal Caribbean Dawn version by: 2. 4. Move the mouse to Caribbean Dawn and click the mouse. 5. To verify this, DOUBLE-click this same Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray, at the bottom right corner of your display.
PROBLEM: There are black bands on each side of the images and this display is particularly wide for its height. SOLUTION: You may have a wide screen PC display, found on certain laptops and LCD displays. There is a version of the screen saver on the disk made especially for this type of display. If you install it, the pictures will fill the screen. 1. Put the Caribbean Dawn CD into the PC's CD drive. 2. Click on START, in the lower left corner of your PC screen. 3. Move the mouse to Run (near the bottom) and click the mouse. A box, where you can type, will appear. 4. Type D:WIDE\setup, where "D" is the letter of your CD drive. (It might, for example, need to be "E" or "F" on your PC.) 5. Click on "OK". 6. This will install the taller, less wide version of the screen saver, which is called "Caribbean Dawn WIDE".
PROBLEM: The Display Properties Window stops responding. SOLUTION: 1. Bring up the Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. On some PCs, you may then need to click on Task Manager. 2. Click the tab labeled Processes. 3. Look down the leftmost column for an entry that starts with CARIB and ends with .SCR, such as CARIBB~1.SCR 4. Click on this entry to select it. 5. Click the End Process button. 6. Click Yes to the Task Manager warning box. 7. This may happen when the delay before the screen saver starts is very short - such as only one minute. See the next PROBLEM description to change this amount of time.
PROBLEM: I Want to Change the Delay Before the Screen Saver Starts SOLUTION: 1. Move your mouse to an area of your PC screen where the background is visible. 2. RIGHT click. 3. A box with a number of words should appear. One of these words is Properties. 4. Move the mouse to Properties and left click on the word Properties. 5. A window should appear with the title Display Properties. Just under the title bar, near the top, should be a number of tabs. One of them should have the name Screen Saver. 6. Click on the tab labeled Screen Saver. 7. Look for the word Wait on the left side of the window. The box just after it is the number of minutes the PC will wait after no mouse or keyboard activity before the screen saver starts. 8. Change the value in this box to the number of minutes you prefer. Values between 15 and 45 are popular. Values of 2 and under are not recommended.
PROBLEM: The screen saver will not start SOLUTION: 1. RIGHT click on the Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray, which is in the bottom right corner of your screen, in the task bar, near the clock. A gray window will appear with choices regarding screen savers. 2. Without clicking, just move the mouse to Set Default Screen Saver, which is the fourth line in the gray box. A second gray box will appear, which lists all of the screen savers available on your PC. 3. Move the mouse to Caribbean Dawn and click the mouse. This ensures that Caribbean Dawn is the selected screen saver. 4. Double click the Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray. If the screen saver does not start, then... 5. Bring up the Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. On some PCs, you may then need to click on Task Manager. 6. Click the tab labeled Processes 7. Look down the leftmost column for an entry that starts with CARIB and ends with .SCR, such as CARIBB~1.SCR 8. Click on this entry to select it. 9. Click the End Process button. 10. Click Yes to the Task Manager warning box. 11. Now, double click on the Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray. The screen saver should begin. Be careful not to move the mouse after clicking, for the mouse motion will stop the screen saver.
PROBLEM: There is a red dot with a white "X" over top of the Screen Saver Control in the system tray, at the bottom right of my screen. SOLUTION: Screen savers are disabled on your PC. 1. Right click on the Screen Saver Control icon in the System Tray, which is in the bottom right corner of your screen, in the task bar. A gray window will appear with choices regarding screen savers. 2. Without clicking, just move the mouse to "Enable Screen Saver", which is the sixth line in the gray box. Left click on this line. 3. If this does not remove the red dot with the white "X", then repeat this, but left click on "Disable Screen Saver", then repeat this again, and left click on "Enable Screen Saver". 4. If the X still remains, you may need to re-boot your PC.
